Without the Third

Drama Without the Third (Bez trećeg, 1926) is internationally most sucessful work by one of the most famous Croatian modern playwrights Milan Begović (1876-1948). In 1920s and 1930s it was shown at numerous theatres all around Europe: it had more than 100 performances in Germany alone! Without the Third is a stage adaptation of the last chapter of Begović's extensive novel Giga Barićeva. The author focused on dialogues and psychology, dealing with just two characters "separated from life", Giga and Marko Barić, in the aftermath of World War I. Giga and Marko are contemporary Penelope and Odysseus, whose long separation ends with clash, violence and murder. In the original Croatian language.
