Grce a un tat d'esprit particulier, la promenade urbaine tait pour les surralistes une activit irrelle. Fideles a la philosophie du dpaysement professe par Rimbaud, dans leur errance sans but, ils mettaient en pratique l'ide du voyage automatique, favorisant la transformation de la routine quotidienne en posie. Dans son poeme, Benjamin Pret ? en plaant Paris dans l'ocan Pacifique au cour d'une ronde de requins affams ? monta d'un cran la barre de l'onirisme topographique. L'errance dans les rues menait toujours a une rencontre inattendue, un change significatif de regards, confirmant chaque jour l'importance du hasard. Jacceptais de croire au hasard universel mais a Paris, plus que partout ailleurs, je croyais le voir plus aisment, presque le toucher du doigt, crivait Soupault. Notes podróżny do prowadzenia prywatnych zapisków, którego inspiracją stały się wędrówki tropem paryskiego surrealizmu. Spacer po mieście, dzięki odpowiedniemu stanowi ducha, był dla surrealistów czynnością irrealną. Błądząc bez celu, wcielali w życie ideę automatycznej wędrówki sprzyjającej przemianie codziennej rutyny w poezję. Przemianę tę uchwycili w prozie i fotografiach autorzy notesu. Strony numerowane, notes z indeksem ułatwiającym porządkowanie dokonanych wpisów.
