Martin Poppe stellt die Maxwell'schen Gleichungen vor und interpretiert sie vor dem Hintergrund wichtiger Ergebnisse der Grundlagenforschung. Seine zentralen Anliegen sind Verständlichkeit und Anwendbarkeit. Daher verzichtet der Autor auf die im neunzehnten Jahrhundert eingeführten und mittlerweile als redundant erkannten Hilfsgrößen. So wird die Theorie einfacher, übersichtlicher, leichter zu nutzen und von weit verbreiteten Missverständnissen befreit.
