Pirate Eye Patch

A New Take On An Old Pirate Myth Pirate costumes in movies, TV shows and costume parties all depict pirates as having an patch over one eye. This leaves one to wonder if they just can’t help getting into eye-poking contests or if there is something else going on. Historical research suggests that pirate life called for frequently going below deck. To functionally maintain some sense of night vision, they would cover one eye to keep it in darkness. This made for a faster, easier transition between bright light and the dark in the bowels of the ship. It was such an interesting fashion statement that the pirate eye patch is here to stay. An Interesting Pirate Eye Patch Beyond their real-world functional value, pirate eye patches also tended to be rather boring-looking. A flat-black flap that usually left you bumping into people and things at a costume party. So, rather than ditch the icon of piracy, someone decided to spice it up by creating an patch like this one with a sinister looking eyeball staring out at the world. It adds humor while still letting you look like a vile pirate plundering the 7 seas.
